Nah Ok-bun, also nicknamed as “Goblin Granny”, is an elderly woman infamous for constantly filing

civil complaints at her local office. One day, Ok-bun meets Park Min-jae, a recently transferred junior

civil service officer, and tensions arise when Min-jae seems to only care about what he is assigned to do

rather than her complaints. However, things begin to change when Ok-bun sees Min-jae speaking in

fluent English and asks him to give her English lessons. Along the way, an unlikely friendship forms

between them as they spend more time together, with Min-jae later learning the reason why Ok-bun is

so determined to learn English.

This captivating tale showcases how strangers have to work and live together under different circumstances, navigating through difficulties and finding an unlikely family-like friendship along the way.

Won Ryu-hwan, a North Korean agent trained by the North Korean elite special forces since young, was sent to South Korea as a spy. Ryu-hwan takes up the identity of Bang Dong-gu, a goofy and mentally challenged young man while two other spies, Lee Hae-rang and Ri Hae-jin take up the personas of a young wannabe rock star and a high school student respectively. As time went on without receiving any orders from North Korea, they got used to their lives in the small town and slowly became attached to the people living there as well. However, their peace was disturbed abruptly when they were ordered to take each other’s lives, or risk death at the hands of an elite hit team.

In l982, Choi Ik-hyun works as a customs officer at the Busan Port, where he and his colleagues accept bribes and smuggle goods. About to lose his job, Ik-hyun discovers a huge amount of drugs by chance, and meets up with gangster Choi Hyung-bae to sell the drugs to the Japanese yakuza. Discovering that he and Hyung-bae are part of the same Choi family clan from Gyeongju, Ik-hyun quits his job and becomes a full-time businessman. Ik-hyun and Hyung-bae establish a partnership and rise to the top in the Busan underworld. But when the government declares war against organised crime in 1990, difficulties arise when Ik-hyun finds himself having to choose where his loyalties lie in order to survive.
